Sclerology may be generally defined as the science of the markings in the whites of the eyes describing conditions of health. The red lines and the other markings and coloring in the whites of the eyes actually correspond to teal conditions within the body. Their size and shape and various other aspects of configuration and shading describe health qualities. Sclerology is therefore a means of looking into a person's eyes to see what is happening with his/her health, to get a sense of what is most important. It shows exactly where the highest stress and congestion are located in the bodily being, where such stress and congestion are coming from (originating cause), how much of the stress is emotional, how much physical, and how much both combined.

Sclerology is a way of viewing inherited tendencies to weakness, and of seeing various disease processes. It is a means of health evaluation that is accurate. The sclera is continuous with the dura mater of the brain, and is capable of showing conditions of health and disease anywhere in the body. Most of the lines we typically see in the whites of the eyes are actually conjunctiva lines, and not properly sclera lines at all. This fact reflects the essentially emotional background of much of our pathology.

Further comparing Iridology and Sclerology, one researcher pointed out that Iridology could be thought of more as an identifier of genetic pre-dispositions. Whereas, Sclerology is more like a systems status indicator, since it seems to change more responsively (than does Iridology) to the body's conditions. So Iridology shows long standing conditions and Sclerology shows what's happening now in the body.
