Lymphatic Drain

This is a method of encouraging increased lymphatic fluid flow, throughout the body. There are two main dump points for the lymph system, the thoracic duct and the lymphatic duct. Both are located in the chest near the sternum, just under the clavicle. The idea is to push, or squeegee the lymphatic fluid in the body towards these dump sites. Light pressure is applied first then increasing to heavy and finishing with light. By keeping the lymphatic system moving it promotes health and wellness to the body.

Infante and Child Massage

In 1915 James Knox Jr. of the Johns Hopkins hospital noted that in spite of adequate physical care, 90% of infants in Baltimore orphanages and foundling homes dies within a year of admission. In the same year a New York pediatrician, published a report concerning children's institutions in ten different cities and found the mortality rate closer to 99% with in one year. These statistics were found to be universal in the late 19th and early 20th century.

The disease was called 'merasmus' a Greek word meaning 'wasting away' and it was accepted that almost every infant in every orphanage would succumb to it, in spite of adequate diet and professional medical attention. Even those who survived the first year were clearly damaged by it and showed sever physical retardation.

In hospitals infants who were taken out of the home for illness showed increased diarrhea, and slow growth as well as wasting of muscle tissues, even when there were no changes in diet. When the infant was returned to the home all the symptoms subsided.

Symptoms of "Sensory Malnutrition" include retarded bone growth, failure to gain weight, poor muscular coordination, immunological weakness, general apathy and depression.

More recently in a Boston hospital a study showed that premature infants which received massage has a much higher growth rate than those who did not receive massage. The study has such profound impact that all infants born in that hospital now receive massage treatment within the first 24 hours of birth.

I would include newborns all the way up to 5 or 6 years of age as needing this form of massage. The massage flow is structured to be quick, due to limited attention span in infants, and nourishing to the child. It addresses the whole body and is a great bonding tool for both mother and father. Emotionally the child benefits beyond any scale of measurement, both as a child, young adults and later as adults.

Fascia Therapy

Fascia membranes serve to anchor and support the organs and the skeletal membranes that cover bones and cartilage. Superficial Fascia refers to the connecting layer between the skin. Fascia is fibrous tissue between muscle bundles or forming the sheath around muscles or other structures that support nerves and blood vessels. Deep Fascia refers to fibrous tissue sheaths containing little or no fat, that penetrate deep into the body separating major muscle groups and anchoring them to bones. Blood vessels, nerves, and the spinal cord are all covered by Fascia.

Fascia has to very unique properties:

1. It resists quick pressure or force, meaning when movement is desired you must move at the level and speed with which the Fascia will accept if you attempt to force the direction or speed the Fascia locks down and resists any change in placement or pliability.

2. When Fascia is stretched an electrical charge is released, the piazoe effect, this is part of the energy with which our body functions. This tissue is 3 dimensional running in all directions and keeps organs in place, protects joints, determines our range of motion, and forms protective layers around areas of our body. Often emotions are associated with Fascia and is sometimes called cell memory.
Fascia is an electrical energizer in the body. Digestion is another form of electrical energy from the body.
Lactic acid is only broken down by oxygen.
Benefits of releasing Fascia gets lymphatic fluid into Fascia which delivers nutrients and removes toxins. It also helps with cellulite and wrinkles also.
